Laura Day

Academic Dean

Laura is a native of Chattanooga and is thrilled to be bringing her experience in classical education to her hometown to help launch Chattanooga’s first outdoor classical charter school. She began her journey in classical education at Hillsdale College, where she earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in American Studies in 2011 and apprenticed at Hillsdale’s classical K-12 academy. She then served as a founding faculty member and department head at Trivium Preparatory Academy in Phoenix, AZ, part of the Great Heart’s Academies classical public charter school network. As a network instructional coach and leadership fellow at Great Hearts, she helped to shape curriculum for the many schools within the network and learned from some of the nation’s foremost leaders in classical education. Her love for Chattanooga brought her back in 2016 when she began work with online classical education through Memoria Press Online Academy while earning her Master of Arts in American History and Government from Ashland University. Now, as Skillern Elementary’s Academic Dean, Laura is passionate about using her experience to help make this beautiful model of education available to the students of Hamilton County. When she’s not working in education, she delights in spending time with husband, Justin, reading great books with her book club, cooking, walking, and appreciating the beauty of nature.
